BOARD OF DIRECTORS
My name is Debbie Larocque. I have enjoyed living in the Brooks area since 1978. I have worked as an accounting technician in Brooks for over 22 years. For the past 5 years I have volunteered on the SPEC board; the last year as Board Chair. Though there are many challenges, there are many more opportunities to affect positive change in our community. The SPEC Association for Children and Families truly helps make Brooks a better community!
Terry Melnychuk, Vice Chair
My daytime hours involve marketing and providing petroleum products to industry, agriculture, emergency services, and individuals to help achieve their plans and goals. I’ve experienced life as an entrepreneur, farmer, Biblical counsellor, business man, missionary and irrigation specialist. As a father and grandfather, my appreciation and concern for children extends beyond my family to those of my community, my country and globally. I’ve served as an Advanced Foster Parent in Alberta and in the Philippines as a Home Director of The Little Children’s Home and as an advisor in international adoptions. As the team leader of several trips to Mexico, we provided relief supplies and Christmas Boxes to children at the hospital, in orphanages, at the city dump and youth in prison. My involvement with the SPEC Board began in October of 2009. I am presently Board Vice Chair and serve on various committees.
Felix Vaughan, Treasurer
I have served on the SPEC Board as a Director from April 2013 until June 2016. Presently I am Board Treasurer, Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Fund Development Committee. My studies have included Public Administration, Health Care Management and Disability & Community Rehabilitation. Before moving to Brooks eight years ago, I have lived and worked on two other continents. My work life has always centered around individuals and families, so it was a perfect match to join SPEC. It has been a very wonderful experience.
Pamala Hauser, Secretary
I moved from Edmonton in 2005 and began my teaching career in Brooks. I taught at Holy Family Academy until 2013 and then transferred to St. Joseph’s Collegiate where I currently teach. I am an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and have one child currently studying Political Science in University.
I am excited to be part of the SPEC community and look forward to meeting the people who run this organization! I am the newest Board member and currently Secretary of the Board and a member of the Fund Development Committee.
Rowena N. Bazan, Director
I was born and raised in the Philippines, my family and I became Canadians in September this year. Working with children and serving them is a passion that my heart desires. This is what I love to do. With my 11 years of teaching in the Philippines, it enriched my experience, knowledge and skills in understanding the needs of children. I earned my Master of Science in Physical Education when I was 25. We came to Canada in 2011 full of hope and dreams. With determination I completed the Bridge-to-Teaching Program in Werklund School of Education at University of Calgary and earned my Alberta teaching license in 2014. At present, I am a junior high Physical Education teacher and the Athletic Director of Christ the King Academy, here in Brooks. Promoting lifelong fitness is my major objective as a physical educator.
I am so excited and eager to serve the Brooks children and community through my volunteer services. Thank you SPEC for this opportunity!
Amy Dyck, Director
I grew up in Brooks and still live in the area along with my husband and our three kids. I have a heart for the community, its vitality and reliance and have volunteered in various capacities over the years in various local charities including church, health care, community events, youth outreach, and woman’s organizations. I am very pleased and excited to be a part of the SPEC board of directors. I bring strong marketing and communication experience to the board and very much look forward to being a part of the exciting direction and plans that SPEC is bringing to fruition.
I am very excited to be a part of the committed team at SPEC. I bring a passionate commitment to building strong communities. I bring over 30 years of leadership experience in the non-profit and corporate sectors and my key skills include strategic development, communications, operations management and governance. I am dedicated to the empowerment of staff, partners and all stakeholders. I volunteer regularly in my communities and am honoured to be a part of the fun and supportive culture that exists within SPEC and very excited to be able to serve the people of Brooks and area!
Maureen (Moe) Andruschak,
Director of Programs
I joined the SPEC family in 2000 as a member of the newly created LINKS Community Information Centre program. Currently, I am the Director of Programs at SPEC, ensuring the safe development, implementation, management, and evaluation of SPEC programs, and provide direct supervision to the Program Managers. I ensure programs meet the needs of participants in accordance with adopted standards and established policies and procedures. As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Programs participates in strategic planning, policy development, agency communication, annual and on-going budgeting, problem-solving processes, and agency change management. My educational background is Social Work. I am a long time community resident, mother of five adult children and am very proud to call Brooks home.
Finance Manager CPA, CGA
As a mother of four, and a resident in the County of Newell for over 20 years, I have a deep love and appreciation for The SPEC Association for Children and Families. I am an accounting professional with more than 15 years experience in accounting, and with 10 years in financial management in non-profit. I have had the privilege of working with SPEC for three years.
Family Support Program Manager
A registered Social Worker presently working towards a Social Work Master’s Degree in Leadership in Human Services. I bring 5 years of management experience to my role as the Family Support Program Manager. Raised in Brooks from the age of 9, I have seen the growth and transformation of Brooks becoming a city. I have worked in Calgary, Edmonton and Medicine only to come back to Brooks to start a career in management in the non-profit sector. I have a passion for non-profits and rural communities and I strive to create a united community where all members will be recognized and have their needs met. I am also involved with SPEC Fund Development committee.
LINKS Program Manager
I joined the LINKS team in 2010. Born and raised in Piura-Peru, I moved to Canada in 2010. My credentials are a BSc with a Major in Business Administration. I bring with me almost 20 years of experience in a senior leadership and executive management position. I have experience working with expansion projects with multi-disciplinary teams in a very dynamic and goal-oriented organization. My spoken languages are Spanish, English and French.
Janessa Truscott, parentLINKcentre Program Manager
Starting as an ESL teacher in Brooks, I have developed a passion for cultures, literacy and helping people break through barriers and isolation. I have over 10 years experience working with newcomers to Canada. Over the past 10 years Janessa has finished a Degree in Psychology, Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language to Children and Adults and recently just finished her Speech and Language Degree. Working with the parentLINKcentre and the HIPPY program are a great fit as I get to help families integrate into the community, work with child development and promote literacy skills. I also serve on the SPEC Fund Development committee.
