You are culturally sensitive and passionate in providing services to newcomer students and their families. You will assist them to better understand the school system, making the transition to a new environment as easy as possible, helping them to adjust, adapt and integrate into the Brooks community, while taking into consideration the language barrier faced in the majority of situations. You will encourage newcomer students, together with family members, to participate in activities planned in conjunction with the school.
Qualifications include a Diploma or degree in a human service area, excellent communication and mediation skills, at least one year experience working with children and families, and experience working in a school environment. Knowledge of the community and local/regional available resources for children and families is required. Multilingual skills would be an asset. A valid class 5 AB driver’s license, $2 million insured vehicle, and First Aid Certification are required. Prior to final hiring, Police Record and CYIM checks, along with a driver’s abstract, must be provided. Salary is based on 160 hours/month.
